Assam has launched NESFIC 2026, an innovation-focused initiative aimed at creating stronger connections between young innovators, startups, researchers, government institutions and industry stakeholders. The programme is intended to provide a platform where innovative ideas can be developed around practical challenges and potentially transformed into solutions with wider social and economic applications.
As part of the initiative, 50 real-world challenges have been identified across different sectors for participants to address. The challenge-based approach is designed to encourage young innovators to work on problems that have direct relevance to government, industry and communities, while also giving them an opportunity to demonstrate the practical value of their ideas.
Selected participants will have access to mentorship, industry exposure and financial support of up to ₹40 lakh, providing opportunities to take promising concepts beyond the initial idea or prototype stage. Such support can help innovators refine their solutions, understand market and implementation requirements, and explore pathways for wider adoption.
NESFIC 2026 also aims to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions, the startup ecosystem, government departments and private-sector organisations. By bringing these stakeholders onto a common platform, the initiative seeks to encourage knowledge sharing, problem-solving and the development of solutions that respond to emerging needs.
For Assam and the wider Northeast, the programme represents an effort to create more opportunities for young talent to participate in innovation and entrepreneurship. It also provides a channel through which locally developed ideas can be connected with institutional and industry support, potentially helping promising innovations move from concepts to practical applications.
