Assam is set for a major infrastructure push, with the state government planning to invest ₹50,000 crore over the next five years, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced.
The ambitious investment plan is aimed at accelerating infrastructure development across the state and strengthening the foundation for long-term economic growth. The proposed spending is expected to cover a wide range of areas, including roads, healthcare, education, power, flood management, housing and other critical public infrastructure.
The initiative comes as Assam seeks to improve connectivity, expand essential services and create an environment that can support greater investment and business activity. Better infrastructure is expected to play a key role in connecting communities, improving access to markets and strengthening the state’s economic potential.
The government’s five-year infrastructure vision also highlights the growing importance of large-scale public investment in supporting Assam’s development ambitions. From urban centres to rural and tea-growing regions, the planned projects are expected to have an impact across different sections of the state.
The proposed ₹50,000-crore investment could mark a significant step in Assam’s infrastructure expansion, with the potential to generate economic activity, create employment opportunities and strengthen the state’s position as a key growth hub in Northeast India.
